India Jordan’s ‘For You’ is a euphoric road to self discovery

I could not WAIT to press play on this track on my latest BBC Introducing Dance show on Radio 1. It’s from a producer who has fast become one of my favourite artists, hand on heart. Last year they released some of the most-rated tracks of 2019 with disco-inflected ‘DNT STP MY LV’ and the boisterous, stomping ‘Warper’, which I could not stop playing in my sets and on the radio.

This week’s Dancefloor Moment came from a name you’ll never forget: India Jordan, who is gearing up to drop their biggest project to date, a six-track EP out at the end of May, on Local Action. I can tell you now, that the EP will be worth the wait, and I have no doubt that this will further cement Jordan as one of the UK’s key producers and selectors.

I instantly connected with the title track ‘For You’, not only for its high-energy, soaring synths, but also because it’s India’s most personal release yet, and it reflects what it means to understand your queerness, accept yourself and truly learn about your own identity.

The artwork shows India in the mirror of the toilets of the iconic LGBTQ+ venue Dalston Superstore, which feels like a fitting home for this new project. India and I DJ’d together here last year - it was a gorgeous, sweaty, shimmering gathering of colourful bodies - a night I’ll never forget!

‘For You’s fast-paced tone and nostalgic vocals pay homage to India’s influences from Doncaster’s happy harcore scene - and when, one day our clubs do re-open, this will soundtrack the moment when the whole dancefloor moves together in one blissful, euphoric boogie.

You can buy the EP (digital and vinyl) on bandcamp, and listen to ‘For You’ below.
